Chat With Julianna Rose Mauriello
May 26th, 2008
Julianna Rose Mauriello — What can one say? She's starred on Broadway, has had vast experience in many fields, including dance, voice, acting, etc., and yet, her career seems to be only just beginning...
LTP: Do you have any ideas for what you want to do in the future, besides LazyTown, after your contract is up?
JRM: No definite plans for the summer. Right now I am focusing on finishing up the school year and having a relaxing summer break. I'm excited to see what the future holds for me, but I don't have any set plans. Next year I will be finishing high school and going to college, but I'm not sure where or what I will study.
LTP: What is your favorite color?
JRM: I love green, and of course I love the color pink!
LTP: Did you get your driver's license yet, and would you consider yourself a good driver?
JRM: No, I haven't even gotten my learner's permit. I'm sure with enough practice I'll be a good driver, but I haven't started yet.
LTP: Who is your favorite Beatle?
JRM: John Lennon. He was the Walrus!
LTP: What are some of the other bands you like?
JRM: I love so many different artists, too many to name!
LTP: Just one little patriotic question - If you could vote, who would you vote for?
JRM: Honestly, I haven't really done enough research on the candidates to make an educated decision, but it would either be Clinton or Obama. I can't vote, so didn't choose a side, but I am rooting for the Democrats!
LTP: When you go on vacation, where are your preferred places to go?
JRM: Anywhere, and everywhere! I love visiting European cities, as I'm more of a city person than a beach person. I went to Mexico last summer and that was really amazing! I love vacations where you learn about a new place while having fun and relaxing.
LTP: How is Audrey Hepburn doing? And do you usually travel with her?
JRM: Audrey is great! She is so cute, and always full of energy! She prefers to stay home when I travel, though.
LTP: Are there any special LazyTown episodes that you particularly enjoyed?
JRM: There are so many, it's hard to choose. I definitely love the very first episode, and I loved filming the baking episode and the circus episode.
LTP: Do you have a favorite movie?
JRM: No, I could never choose just one.
LTP: What video games, if any, do you have an interest in?
JRM: I don't really play video games. I have tried the Wii and it's really fun.
LTP: Do you like to cook, and what's your fave recipe?
JRM: Hmm... tough one. I like cooking, but I don't do it very often. The first thing my mom taught me how to make was shrimp scampi, so I guess I'll choose that.
LTP: When you were doing Broadway ("Gypsy", "Oklahoma!", etc.), did you encounter any awkward moments on stage?
JRM: I'm sure there were plenty of awkward, silly moments on stage. None that I can specifically remember right now.
LTP: Did you find acting on LazyTown to be easier during the Second Season, becoming more comfortable with the Stephanie character?
JRM: Yes, after playing Stephanie for the past few years I would say it's gotten easier.
LTP: Have you learned a lot from doing LazyTown that you might find useful?
JRM: I have learned so much over the past few years, it would be difficult to put it all into words. Lazytown has been a really incredible experience, I learned a lot about being in a t.v. production, plus I learned so much from moving to a different country and being away from home.
LTP: Do you drink coffee, tea, or...?
JRM: Yes, sometimes, though I try to stick with water and juice because it's a little healthier.
LTP: What do you think about LazyTownPoint.com?
JRM: The site is really great, and you did an excellent job with all the interviews and pics.
LTP: When you first got involved with LazyTown, did you get a chance to see the original Icelandic Latibær play(s)?
JRM: I saw the tapes shortly after arriving in Iceland for Season 1. I was surprised to see the original characters and how much they have changed since then.
LTP: There's obviously alot of choreography in the show - Do you have anything to do with creating your own dance moves, or is it up to somebody else?
JRM: I worked with a choreographer to learn and often help come up with the dances. It was a fun process of trying new ideas and new steps, we worked together but I do owe a lot of credit to my choreographers.
LTP: Takk, it's been a great chat!
